Air Handlers

Air handlers are electric furnaces with integrated cooling/heating coils. They are normally installed in conjunction with a heat pump. Air handlers distribute air equally throughout your house, provide heat in the winter, and dehumidify and cool your home in the summer. They are quite often installed in homes with no natural gas or as auxiliary systems in a basement or room addition.

Heat Pumps

In the winter, a heat pump reverses the cooling process most homeowners experience from their AC systems. The heat pump absorbs heat energy from the air outside, and uses this to heat indoor air by dissipating the heat energy inside.

Geothermal Heating

Geothermal heat pumps, also known as ground-source heat pumps, can heat, cool, and even supply hot water to a home by transferring heat to or from the ground and can cut energy bills by up to 65% compared to traditional HVAC units.

Ductless Heating

If you need to effciiently, quietly heat (or cool) a room or living space without ductwork, then ductless systems, also called mini-splits, are the right choice. They following the model of typical air conditioning or heat pump systems. An air conditioner or heat pump is located outside, and an indoor air handler is located inside. The difference is, the ductless air handler is small, and mounted on a wall or recessed in the ceiling. A ductless air handler is designed to condition the air in a specific living space. There are ductless products on the market that can provide comfort for multiple rooms – this allows for room by room comfort that simply wasn’t possible in the past without ductwork.

What our customers say:

We have used Trademasters for almost 25 years. Their service is excellent and timely. We have never had a problem requesting emergency service. They are always accommodating. We recently contracted with Trademasters for a new furnace, air conditioner and hot water tank. All three jobs were done on time on the day they were scheduled. They were in and out in a few hours. There have been no followup issues. A job well done by the Trademasters staff.

Being in the commercial real estate industry for the past decade, I have worked with countless contractors. When it came time to evaluate overhauling my residential HVAC system and water heater, I received a few quotes from vendors and was then referred to Trademasters. I instantly felt confident with this vendor from the onset while meeting Shane for over 2 hours for the initial site visit. After several subsequent calls, given the project's scope and financial investment, we released Trademasters and could not be more satisfied. I was overly impressed by the prompt communication by Tabatha and the team at the main office from pulling the permit, scheduling around inclement weather and meticulous record-keeping of all necessary documentation.Further, I was blown away by the attention to detail, work ethic and ability to quickly problem-solve the day of the installation performed by Chris P., Chris F. and of course, Phil. They truly went above and beyond. I can genuinely state that I will be referring Trademasters to clients & friends and cannot wait to get them on board for my commercial projects!

Trademasters was quick to provide a quote for a replacement HVAC unit. Price was responsible with no "hidden" costs. They were sure to include and explain the little things that really make a difference that we would not have even though of as a homeowner. Things that seem “small” but are worth it such as a trap we can see and clean, a drip pan sensor and float sensor to detect leaks and clogged lines to prevent water damage to our house, and a new equipment pad and risers for the outdoor unit. Really appreciated the honesty and transparency of the quote. They additionally provided great information for us to decide on the type of replacement unit we wanted/needed. They answered any questions we had promptly and thoroughly. When the two technicians arrived on site they were on time, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. They wore face masks (COVID), shoe covers, and laid down a drop cloth from the front door to the indoor unit to protect the house during their work and trips inside and out. They were impeccable when they cleaned up their work inside and out. They were extremely professional, hard working and efficient during their time here. The orientation of the new unit, explanation of the initial startup, testing of the unit and all the details of the work completed were above standard. Trademasters really goes above and beyond from start to finish.

I'm giving Trademasters five stars thanks to the five-star service we received. We recently had our ancient (and dead) HVAC unit replaced by this company and the quality of work was excellent! Also, the staff worked with a high level of professionalism. From our initial estimate meeting with Shane, I was very comfortable with his knowledge and was confident that they could do the job, which wasn't and easy one due to the age of our previous unit and the orientation of it. Shane gave a competitive quote and we decided on Trademasters largely due to his understanding of the situation and his experience. The staff worked from 7 am to 4 pm. It was an all-day job, but they got the work done earlier than previously estimated. Safety precautions were definitely taken and the technicians kept their masks on for the duration of the work, which alleviated any concerns. Once that air conditioning kicked it, relief was granted! Payment was easy as well and the office staff did a great job coordinating everything.Awesome service and highly recommended!

We had our air conditioning go out unexpectedly on a weekend. I called first thing on a Saturday morning, and a technician came out later that same morning. He was able to get the system back working in the morning, but in the afternoon we heard a sound that indicated a further problem. We called and the technician came out again that same day, was able to do some additional diagnostics and determined that a bear in the motor had gone. While Trademasters was not able to fix it that day, they called first thing Monday morning and got a technician out to replace the motor. We have a regular service agreement and they only charged us for replacing the motor. I very much appreciate the expertise and professionalism of the technicians and prompt response from the support staff. I will definitely stay with Trademasters.

TradeMaster. From the first moment Shane Allen walked into my house and game me the estimate I know I can trust them. He Diddy push me to buy he did not called me to book his service instead he gave me space for me to think about it. Few days later after I spoke with my wife we decided to move forward with TradeMaster/Shane. Do you know how horrible is that during the summer you ac broke down! That’s exactly what happened to me. But after I booked the service they came next day and reemplace my units for a new one within 7 hours. Those people now how to get the job done professionally, fast and clean. Thank you so much for your amazing services and for faster response to my emails. You guys are the best. If you need this services don’t look no further I highly recommend it. Our experience with Trademaster was a very welcome exceptional experience in replacing our HVAC system. We had contact with five representatives/technicians for the entire process. All were most professional in presenting the information we requested to the actual installation. With the average daily temperature reaching 90 degrees, the time for replacing our system was important. From the initial request for an estimate to the installation, Trademaster folks did it in a little less than three weeks. We certainly would recommend Tademaster Services to anyone needing HVAC or plumbing service

This week, we had our hot water heater replaced by Trademasters. We are long time clients of this company and, after pricing different providers for this installation, we decided to have them accomplish the job. Devon was our technician and I was so impressed, I sent a message to the company! Devon was not only very capable and efficient, but just such a great guy! He went way above and beyond helping me to clear the area around the hot water heater location, was kind and thoughtful and just a joy to have about for the duration of a pretty complicated job. I highly recommend Trademasters after years of dealing with this company, and I certainly recommend Devon Houston as one of their best representatives! My sincere thanks for a job well done!! ?

We had a total of 5 estimates for replacement of a heat pump and air handler for our townhouse. We found a wide range of prices, as much as $800 between them. We chose Trademasters, which was in the middle of that range, in part because they installed a furnace/ a/c in another home for us and have done fall and springs checks since then. They had always been easy to work with and schedule. That system is still working well. We had the townhouse checked out when we purchased it. David was the technician. He did a great job, explained everything about the heat pump and air handler, what potential problems we might have and the new R-ratings for coolant. The hardware was very dated (1985 and 2004), so when it had problems later, we had Trademastesr prepare an estimate. The estimator, Shane, like David, gave us cogent and detailed information and explained what he thought our best choices were. Chris (crew leader), Stephen, and Luis did the installation. They called ahead, were on time (early, even), watched out that the muddy outside did not come inside, even put up with the rambunctious puppy with grace. They worked straight through until the work was done and the house was heated, just before the unusual very cold spell that occurred in November 2019. Kudos to all of them. We would fully recommend Trademasters.

Heating and Air Conditioning

  • Heat pumps
  • Boilers
  • Radiators
  • Furnaces
  • Air conditioning units
  • AC compressors
  • Ducting
  • Geothermal heating
  • Central heating

Heat Pumps are air conditioners that run in reverse. They extract heat from outside and pump it inside. Heat pumps can be installed with an electric furnace on the inside or combined with a gas furnace. Either of these options create a dual fuel hybrid heating and cooling system.

In more moderate temperatures, a dual fuel hybrid system uses the electric heat pump to heat your home. When temperatures drop below freezing, it automatically switches over to gas. Since electric companies tend to charge less for electricity during the winter months, using an electric furnace can save you money.

A heat pump makes an ideal heating/cooling system for a basement remodel or a room addition. It is more efficient, has a lower upfront cost, and is less complicated to install compared to a traditional gas-fuel system.

Air Conditioning

Types of Air Conditioners

Air conditioners can be organized several ways, but the easiest is by type. All units can be divided into three distinct major types: single stage, two stage, and variable speed units.

Efficiency or SEER Rating

“SEER” is an abbreviation for “seasonal energy efficiency ratio.” The SEER (or efficiency) rating of an air conditioner refers to how much electricity the unit will use to keep you cool during a typical season. Higher numbers are better: the higher the SEER, the higher the efficiency is, and the less electricity the unit will consume.

Tonnage or Capacity

The “tonnage” of an air conditioner refers to the unit’s ability to remove heat from your home. The heat contained in buildings is measured in tons.

To give you an idea of what a ton of heat is, imagine a block of ice weighing one ton. One ton of heat is the amount of heat it would take to melt that block of ice in an hour. A ton of heat is also equivalent to 12,000 BTUs or 18,000 burning matches.

Residential air conditioners are made in sizes of 1.5 to 5 tons. They usually increase size in half-ton increments. The job of an air conditioning contractor is to determine what size (or tonnage) unit you need for your house. In this case, is it not a matter of “the more, the better.”

An oversized air conditioner will not remove the proper amount of moisture from the air. An undersized air conditioner will run constantly even at moderate temperatures and will not adequately condition the space. Since every home is unique, the best option is often to choose a two speed or variable unit. They work well even when slightly oversize.

Adding a variable speed furnace will help you remain dry as well as cool.

Single Speed Air Conditioners

Single speed air conditioners produce the same amount of heat removal all the time regardless of how hot and muggy it is outside. They are built to handle the hottest days of the year. While this is great in July, it means that they are larger than needed the rest of the time.

A good contractor will select a unit slightly smaller than what is needed for peak temperatures, since most of the time we do not see peak temperatures. Matching your unit to the temperatures you see most of the time will be more efficient and save you money.

Two Speed Air Conditioners

Two speed air conditioners have two distinct output capacities to better condition your home. These units can change the amount of cooling capacity they produce depending on how hot it is. Because they can slow down and run longer, they do a better job of removing moisture and providing enhanced comfort.

Variable Speed Air Conditioners

We recommend Variable Speed units for large homes. Instead of turning on and off all day to adjust the temperature, they run at a variable speed. They have 700 different outputs, which means they can accurately provide temperatures to within 1/10th of the degree you want. They provide exceptional comfort and moisture removal, with none of the hot and cold temperature swings typical to one and two speed units.

Just as there are several types of gas furnaces, there are several types of air handlers.

  • Different speeds: A single speed air handler runs at the same fan speed all the time. Variable speed air handlers that vary their output by demand.
  • Different currents: A variable speed air handler runs off D/C (direct current), while a single stage air handler is powered by A/C (alternating current). The D/C driven variable speed air handler can be coupled with a humidity-sensing thermostat that allows enhanced dehumidification in the summer.

A variable speed air handler can remove 5-10% more moisture from your home than a standard single speed unit can.

Air handlers typically have auxiliary heating elements, which are installed by your contractor. These heating elements are available with different amounts of heat output. Heating elements provide heat on chilly days to supplement the output of heat pumps or a furnace.

Energy Efficient Retrofitting & Energy Audits

Heating and cooling equipment over ten years old can be significantly less efficient than currently available systems. Upgrading an older system can not only help the environment, but also save money through reduced energy use, decreased down-time, and lower maintenance and repair expenses. Retrofitting an older, inefficient HVAC system can more than pay for itself in a very short time.

Trademasters uses the latest state-of-the-art equipment and methods, applying a comprehensive approach to retrofitting that ensures your HVAC system’s efficiency, reliability, and safety. Energy Star rated heating and cooling equipment can help you save up to 30% on energy costs and meet new environmental standards.

It’s a win-win for both the environment and your budget.
